Lumenlab > Audio Video Sciences > Advanced Projector Builder > Projectors based on small panels

I've been scrounging around on the forums getting some idea's and what not and am ready to make my own. A friend of mine and I have already made a 15" Haas style projector that turned out awesome. I don't need that size so I'm doing it based on a small pannel as cheap as possible, so far here's what I have:

-- $3 Lense (Garage sale find, old slide projector)
-- $9 for a 5" LCD (out of a non working portable DVD player - Ebay)
-- $3 Fresnels (yet another Ebay find)
-- $4 for a 600 hallogen projector bulb - Walmart)
-- Wood - Free smile.gif

Total cost: $19

Pics to come this week. biggrin.gif

I'm pretty pumped to be finally building my own projector. My buddy and I built a 15" Hass style already but I wanted something a little more compact. I just bought a portable DVD player off ebay for $9, good lcd but the DVD portion doesn't work. Picked up a slide projector at a yard sale today for $3 to scavenge the lense off of, now all I need is some wood, wire, fresnels and some light and I should be ready to rock.

Any idea's where I can get fresnals for such a small screen?

office max bro

any of them page magnifires... they work well

you might have to cut them down but all that comes in time
and there is ALOT of information on that in this forem

I've encountered my first problem. I need a FCC extention with 16 pins and its about 3/4" wide, anyone know where I can get one of those?
GadgetSmith
The LL store carries a 16pin 0.5 pitch FFC (not FCC smile.gif ) extension (you will need to verify the pitch) If you need it right away there is the small problem that LL is closed until the 18th as they are moving. You can try searching for cable at Digikey.com I took a quick look, but it didn't look like they had 16 pins at 0.5 pitch, only 15 and 18 pins. You could get an 18pin FFC and carefully slice 2 of them off... if you're in a hurry. Also don't forget a connector if you order from digikey.

cheers,
gs

Is that what its called? I have a controller board on the side and the bottom, the bottom flips up and the side flips over onto the bottom one (if that makes sense) so it kinda makes a pocket there.......if it is a pitch cable I need then thats fantastic that ll has them!

Crap 1 more problem, removed the AG and that also took the polorizer off, what do I do now?
nickestorga
Get a new polarizer.... I just got one from polarization.com. Great service.

I know you posted a month ago, so by now you may have finished this project already, but what are you going to use to power the 600 hallogen projector bulb?

Similar "smurf" project (not as low cost as yours):
-- $6 Lense (Ebay find, old slide projector)
***Just ordered a InFocus Projection lens for $13 from Ebay, the seller had 7 more, email me for link, I am not sure of the link posting rules.
-- $30 for (3) three 7" LCD (3 non working portable DVD player - Ebay)
***LCD stripped really easily
-- $8 four (4) Fresnels (yet another Ebay find)
-- $6 for a 250W hallogen lamp (home depot - portable halogen worklight, I want to go back for the $8 - 500 watt)
-- Wood - Still need this..........
