Someone in the forum said 12-16

16 should be fine. what size breaker/fuse do you plan to use ? I would suggest 7amp if using the eballast or 10amp if using a coil core ballast.

ll e bsllest and

A power entry module with an integrated DPST that can be modified to use with auto-shutdown schematics. Size and shape may vary depending on supply. (Click for picture)
An 18awg, 10amp, 3 prong power cord that is 7'6" long and fits the power entry module for a nice clean entry. (Click for picture)
A 5 amp circuit breaker, button activated that replaces the fuse and makes a safer, more convenient fusible link in the power circuit. No more blown fuses. This circuit breaker has been tested and shown to be the most effective amp rating for our projectors. (Click for picture)
Note: Do not solder to circuit breaker terminals. Two quick disconnects are included with kit.

what do u think? should i go 12 g? the power cord uses like 18 or something

16 gauge will work, no problem. you can use upto a 10 amp fuse without worry, but since you have an eballast and 5 amp circuit breaker, you'll be fine with 16 gauge. 12 gauge is total overkill on these PJ's.

do you get to much resistance with the larger gauge and fuse ?
also this wires fine for everything, wall to fan, switches, lcd plug, and eballest and eballest to lamp correct?

if not it will probably jsut start smolkng and i can turn it off and replace the wire smile.gif

There won't be any problems with larger gauge wire, it's just a little more difficult to work with. It would get hot if the wire gauge was too small.

Generally it's a good rule of thumb to use a gauge of wire that is the same size or larger than the wire already on the device you wish to hook up. If you had a really long run of wire (doesn't apply here) then you may have to go with a bigger size.

alright you all better be at my funeral if this catches fire smile.gif

12 ga overkill, 14 ga is safe for 110 V power into transformers, ballasts. No smaller than 18 ga for wiring "downstream" of transformers, ballasts. Fuse/circuit breaker not necessary as long as PJ is plugged into a circuit protected by a breaker.

Bugmage,
if you feel uncomfortable about using 16 gauge, but all means use something larger 14, 12..., there will be less resistance and less heat the larger you go. The powercord that the LL electric kit comes with is stated as being 18 gauge... this is pretty common. Going larger (16 ga.) is even more than you need. If you plan to lengthen the wire between the eballast output and the mogul, you may want to go to 14 gauge for that, as I believe it is 14 gauge wire on the output... (saying exactly what DeathRay said above... use the same or larger wire)

Keep in mind 12 gauge wire is used in home wiring of 20 amp circuits with runs over 50ft. Your PJ will draw (total) less than 3.5 amps after startup with the longest run of wire about 12-30 inches.

good luck and be safe.
