Ok I have finished my 17" monitor projector and it runs and throws a great picture, Problem i am having is I can get the LCD to stay cool, I have (2) 120mm 100CFM Ac fans one on top and one on the bottom pulling heat out of the box. The problem I am having is the center of the LCD is getting way too HOT!! Temps in the light department are ~100 and for the most of the LCD is ~95, but the center is 115+. Any Ideas about how to correct this problem?is it possible i have too little of a slot cut on the top? Currently is ~1/2" wide across 90% of the top cover.

More important than how much air you're moving is what path that air is taking. You need to set it up so the air can only take one path through the box, ideally one that pulls the air over the front then down the back of the LCD to maximize heat dissipation.

How do you have it set up to pull air now?

Currently I have it set up as the instructions show, It is pulling directly down the back of the LCD.
Also i have noticed there will a dark spot arrear on the image once the LCD heats up almost like the heat sorce is causing this. WOuld it help if I moved the back frensel some, and why is it just the very center doing this?

The center will always be somewhat hotter due to the physics of the light engine however, with tweaking you may be able to even out the light and the heat.

Are you currently using an air filter? Possibly it is too restrictive... try it without.

The better the air path is sealed, the more cool air will flow properly across the panel. The better the LCD mount is sealed from the front of the box, the more air you will draw from the slot.

You mentioned two fans pulling air from the box but then said you were following the plan... please elaborate.

Well I built the box to the guides plans, what I meant was the plans shows air flowing down the back of the lcd and out the bottom of the LCD and heat shield. Originally I built it with one fan, but then the artifacts started to show up, so I installed a second fan to see if it made a difference.

I will definatly will try without the filters on the fans and on the inlet slot. Also have a pile of 30mm DC fans I thought of screwing to the top to force air into the slot.

What would you recommend using for filters to keep the light from bleeding into the room?

I am open to ANY suggestions, I have seen the throw image and I am HOOKED!! smile.gif

Personally, I like pantyhose... err .... as a filter media.

Building a filter box over the air intake slot would allow the use of a larger filter and would give you more flow capacity and a longer interval between cleanings.

That being said, many have sucessfully built the conventional way with sufficient cooling. Usually there are too many air leaks when a build runs too hot. If there is not a seal around the heat shield (usually the top leaks), then some air will go straight to the fan rather than be drawn across the panel.

Thanks...I'll give it a try, The filters causeing the trouble does sound like the problem. I do have the heat sheild sealed. and I have the LCD sealled also, So all it can be is the filters.

Thanks again.
