well to get it going i have been thinking of a pj for a great deal of time....since a buddy bought a kit off ebay like 4 years ago with a low rent fresnel that you built a cardboard box for and put around a tv...i knew that it would a. look like crap and b. look like crap...lol...but i thought the idea carried a bit of weight to it at any rate and started to ponder how one would go about doing this and through many years of opening up things to see how they tick i had cracked open many a dead lcd to see what they were all about...so when eventually i heard stories of these magnificant pj projects on places like slashdot and digg...i started to think about the idea again...

fast forward a bit..at first i wanted to do this as cheap as possible...i was going to use a 5" inch lcd i had sitting around...then i decided that if i was gonna do it i was gonna do it right..so i got a lawn chair and camped craigslist for a few weeks and then finally i hit paydirt i found a 15" lcd for $55 so i snatched it up and set on with the project...i started stripping my lcd since i have done it before i figured no big deal...and sure enough i ran into a ominous sight...the mag brand lcd i had bought (which has acer all over it inside) had a fcc issue...no i am the kind of person that looks at this with optimism....so i talked my friend into coming over and impressing me with his super hero like soldering skills....well an ide cable and 10 min later he was done

the lcd worked perfectly not the most beautiful thing you have ever seen but it works....then i set to work builing my box and i decided on a bit of a different design...which you will see when i get some pics uploaded...i added a side box for the coil and core ballast and most of the wiring etc...

this way it doesnt create any more heat inside the main box than is already there from my exttremely big mh bulb....

it is a beast...then i got the fresnels and the triplet from the ll store....and now i am on my fourth design for the frames...cant seem to be completely happy with the first three and i am not convinced with the fourth yet bet hey you never know till you try it right?

so today i got brave and decided to strip the ag off my lcd....i must say i have read some horror stories of this whole process...but i did the paper towel method and i actually forgot about it and about 4 hours into i decieded to check on it and peeled a corner ever so gently with an exacto knife and bam i peeled the whole sheet off in one quick two second motion...it was beautiful....i will tell the grandchildren about it...it went that smoothly...lol...so tonight i am going to work on my new concept for the lcd frame which uses the metal outer frame from the lcd assembly....so i thank thee for sorting through my rantings and have a good one...

well i would like to thank simtech for being so inviting...the post was a work in progress...i still have more pics to add in a bit....well i am onto new biz

well i tried mounting my lcd in the metal frame that was holding the orginial lcd assembly together...so i tacked it in with some hotglue

it is held in place nicely for the moment, it might come loose overtime but for now while i test i think it should be all right..on the other side of my heatshield i dont think from what i have seen that the metal will get that hot, but again i will have to see about that when i test today..

Hot Glue? dry.gif I wonder if that would work when the projector is on and all "warmed" up. That stuff melts pretty easily doesnt it? sad.gif Im not sure. You may find if your box runs hot it may loosen up. Keep an eye on it and post. Good luck biggrin.gif

yeah i kinda have a feeling it will but for testing when i am making the frame it will serve its purpose....i will eventually use a more hardcore adhesive with blocks of wood adheared to the metal frame to secure it...

I used the old faithful high temp silicone sealant for my lcd, holding strong for over a year now! smile.gif
Available from all good automotive parts retail outlets nationwide!! tongue.gif
Seriously,it has been a godsend, even used it to hold my reflector in place!!!
Cheers P smile.gif

EDIT: Sorry,dogmir. Welcome aboard,and good luck! smile.gif

I think that was dry humor. Otherwise he would not have winked at you.
Dont worry about your log. The nice thing about the PLOG's is you can go back and make changes, make it pretty. Whatever you feel like. Looks like you are off to a good start.

Welcome Aboard! biggrin.gif

well i have an image...horay...but i havent installed a reflector yet so allthough the image is bright enought to watch i imagine it will get better with a different bulb and reflector...

on a side note i do now wish i had bought a better lcd...because you can see the actual liquid crystal cells if that makes sense...and will i still have a problem with that when i switch to a newer lcd?...mine is about 3 years old...thanks in advance....but i am off to tweak some more things...have a nice day
