I just bought one of these from
MyPcCity for $90. This upscaler got 4.5 star reviews on Amazon and 5 stars at Dealtime. This scaler also won several awards. I should have it in a week or so. I'll put it through the paces with screenshots and let you guys know how it is.

This scan converter is great for cable TV up-scan. It accepts s-vid, composite, coax, and VGA passthrough. The up scan is MUCH better than other products I've tested, video tape looks pretty good even. The highest resolution supported is XGA at 75hz refresh. It has many nice features such as cable tuner with remote, MTS, picture color, hue, contrast adjustments etc. Again, composite is always going to look like crap on high resolution devices but this converter does a great job with what it has to work with. I went with this model because it was very highly rated by several online sources and users.
Below are a couple of pix of Xbox 'Soul Caliber 2' through the composite connection. You can see the limitations of composite in the pix. These are 8' wide projections. S-video roughly doubles the quality.

Will the nextvision n6 do the same as this thing? What are the differences?

Well as it turns out the place that sold me this thing sold me a factory reject. So I'm getting a refund.

Hey if you buy enough stuff online this is going to happen. I have tremendous luck too so I don't let this kinda thing get to me too bad.

So, inquring minds want to know, is this as good as the N6 or not?
brainchild
Mar 18 2004, 12:07 AM
Well I have the N6 too. The up scan on the VB50HRTV is comparable to the N6 but the N6 is packed with features and has component in, I'd definitely recommend the N6 for the component aspect, PIP, anomorphic widescreen etc.
Also I believe the VB50HRTV is no longer made and has been replaced by the N4.

Ug I tested that thing and found it horrible. VGA resolution is enough to kill it for me. If you're on a tight budget take it back and get the N4 or the Kworld. They at least support high resolutions and have more features.

Brain, You seem to be the "brain" on this subject, what is the smallest lcd screen you would recommend for the project? I am curious 'cause I am thinking of using something like a 7.2" LCD Panel from a Mobile TV monitor. Let me know what you think.

Not so much the size as the resolution and contrast I'm concerned with. There are 6" panels made by NEC with XGA res and 600:1 contrast but they cost $1500. Currently the best small panel is the Lilliput VGA 7".
