Hello all,

I have been touring through all the project plogs and have noticed there are a lot of 17" folded designs. I was curious as to why? Is it to eliminate hanging the big arse box? Or simply because you can choose any angle you wish from angling the mirror to the screen?

Are there any differences from box Vs folded? This question really is a bit late seeings how my box is done. However, like many - I have no qualms with building another..tongue.gif I actually think I'm looking for a good excuse to..smile.gif

I think the main reasons for building a folded design or vertical pj are size and ease of placement. The main drawback to the straight through design that I have found was the placement of the box.

I'm folding mine because I don't want to hang it and I want access to it while making adjustments after the initial build and I want more portability than hanging one would provide and I want to incorporate an HTPC into my build. The fold is an added level of complexity and expense but doesn't really add THAT much more of either so a single fold ain't too bad. Multiple folds can allow for a bit more design flexibility - maybe a "sexier" case. Also, adding ANY component into the light path degrades the final image to some extent so folding - in that sense - is a 'bad' thing.

Heh, i was just thinking there arent ENOUGH folded designs as i'm trying to research a vertical folded one. ole Punisher is just taking his time, fartin around, and hasnt completed his latest masterpiece (being sarcastic with the taking his time part, i wouldnt know as to his flatulence);
i want to do a vertical singlefolded and try to blend it into an endtable idea; because of placement and layout issues with the movie room. I've seen some decent looking ones here @ LL and i really want it to be a simple build.

Ha ha! biggrin.gif
Sorry! I am takin my time,mainly because I know as soon as I finish this one,I will be thinking about the next one! rolleyes.gif
I personally wouldn't want any more than 1 fold,due to image degradation/complexity.But a single fold design,especially with the long FL of the pro fres,lends itself to being folded into a more compact box.
Basically in answer to the why folded question?... Because we can! biggrin.gif
