Full Version: Bulb Wont Start

I've had my projector for about 3 months. It's been working good. But very slowly its been taking longer and longer for it to start. Now it wont even start anymore. I can hear the bulb clicking, trying to start, but it just wont come on.

I've tried just about everything that doesnt involve taking the projector apart.
Tightening all the wires, taking the bulb in and out, taking out various parts that arn't necessary for the projectors operation.

Im using the electronic ballast and the bulb from lumenlab store that I ordered about 4 months ago.

Based on how I've watched the projector. It strikes, and the bulb will flash quick, but doesn't turn on. Slowly its gotten worse. Now it clicks, but the bulb doesn't even flash anymore. So think where ever the capaciter strikes (in the eballast?) has gotten weak. My eballast isn't well protected from the light so it get bombarded. Would over heating the ballast mess up that striking function?

Please help!
Thank you,
Dave

(If my wiring was bad(connection not well secured) could it cause this problem?)

Yes, overheating the ballast can mess it up. Yes bad wiring could cause this problem. You can also look on the center contact of your light socket to see if it looks burned from arcing. You can also, with the power off, bend up the center contact on the socket and try again. And it is still possible for the bulb to be bad. It does happen sometimes.

I recently made this suggestion to another member... it may sound strange, but perhaps it's worth a try. ?

I assume that your bulb is installed horizontally.? Remove the bulb and mogul and temporarily mount it vertically and try to start the bulb. I did this with my Ushio S400DD as I wanted to compare vertical to horizontally mounted. (somthing Simulator was working on) Although I had just started to have problems with the lamp igniting in the horizontal direction (taking 2-3 minutes at times, over several ignition pulses), it fired right up when mounted vertically. (go figure ??) ... I had burned it this way for 3-4 hours (I would do it at least for an hour if you try this) before shutting it down. Once I returned it to the horizontal position, it fired right up like it had done before. I must also say that bulb is now broken (taking it in and out too many times I actually seperated the metal base from the outer glass). I am now using the Ushio PS T15... and a note on that as well.... when originally installed I had it vertically mounted... the bulb pulsed badly... I burned it for 10-15 hours without the pulsing going away... I went back to horizontally mounted and it had always been rock steady in this orientation.
