Anyone considered using a panel from something like this?

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=...oc=0&adid=17662

1440x900 native means a really nice 2.35:1 high-res image...

I may have answered my own musings with my post regarding the Samsung widescreen.

Advantages of the Samsung are:

HDTV Ready
More input options
Analog tuner built in

Still, there's and over $200 difference between the two...

Tony,

What Samsung are you referring too?

That looks like a good monitor. Fast refresh for games.

Samsung 19" Widescreen High-Definition Flat-Panel LCD Monitor
Model: 940MW

I looked it over really well at Best Buy; a VERY nice monitor. It may be a little on the large side for the Pro Fresnels.

I already have an NEC 15". I'm thinking I could start with that using the Pro lens kit and then upgrade the LCD latter if I decide I want to.

Thanks - just caught your other post on that screen this morning. You bring up a good point on whether these will play HD signals from commercial DVR's. With all the digital rights management stuff they are planning to restrict HD signals I wonder how it will affect our DIY projects.

At this point, there's a lot of HD content that's not encrypted. I know for some the encryption is a problem, but for us it's not. We don't watch Showtime or HBO or any of the other premium channels; just sports and History/Discovery, local, etc.

The spec sheet from Samsung says that the 940MW will do HDCP with DVI, so yes, it will decode encrypted content.

Just bought one...
it does only take VGA sad.gif
but i think it servers my purposes nicely...
havn't stripped it yet... probably will in the next few weeks...
unfortunatly the pro lens kit isn't in stock yet...
thought i'd use it as a regular monitor until then...
the Pro Fresnels should fit...
