I can't find blackout cloth taller than 54".
SACK4000
Buy the 110" width blackout cloth from Brainchild and order a length of it for as wide as you want your screen to be.

nice mounting job, how are you getting your cabling there? panduit? fishing the walls? whats the mounting bracket made of? also is your lcd from samsung? also how did you fix the corner after it was dropped (going back a few pages)? oh yeah, watch out for furniture at 200 MPH!

Thanks. For now the cables are just strung across the ceiling. I plan on using panduit as I get farther along. The mounting bracket is made of 1 1/4" SQ tubing and mounted into the ceiling joists with 3" x 1/4" lag bolts I repaired the corner damage by glueing the larger chunks back in place. Then I made a paste from wood glue and saw dust and used it like body filler. Then sanded it smooth.
My LCD is indeed a Samsung LTM1555 S. It works awsome.
As for the furniture I rolled my couch going in to 1 at Daytona I think Gorden got under me and took my air off.

I love your pj to deaf

This is my first post and you pj is inspiring......I would like to know some details on the tube around your triplet, such as; what is it? whats the lengh? how is the triplet mounted to it? how far in or out is the triplet from the front of the tube? did you fix the problem you had in the center of the screen? are you happy with the lcd you have chosen?
thanks

Thanks for the kind words. The tube is some type of drain plumbing made from PVC. It's actualy 2 tubes one that slides back and forth inside the other. It works really good but, wasn't worth the time I had to put into it. I had to use my lathe and machine the ID and OD so the would slide easly and since mine is mounted to the ceiling I don't need to adj. the focus. I did fix the distortion in the projected image. It turns out to be a flaw in my front fresnel lens. I'm starting on my 2nd projector and ordered another set of lenses from brian. I swaped the new fresnels for the old and prob. solved. after looking closley I can see the blemish in the old 330mm lens. I need to e-mail Brian when I get time. As for the LCD I'm very happy. The LTM 1555 S is awsome. However, I'm driving my whole system with a HTPC and didn't need all the inputs after all. It seems to me you have 3 options. Drive it with a PC use the Veiwsonic N6 or get an LCD TV like the LTM 1555.
After trying all 3 on my LCD the PC driven set up look's the best in my opinion.
Hope this helps.

Please keep in mind this is only set up for testing I plan on taking it all down and installing drapery on the walls, building my screen, mounting the PC, monitors and audio in the wall. Sooooo, basicly I have a long way to go.
But, it sure is fun.

Both of my fresnel lenses are between 2 pieces of plate glass. I also put a piece of glass over my LCD. So I have a total of 5 + the temperd glass
I have since read that the more glass the light passes thru the dimmer the projected image becomes. Mine looks great but, on my next projector I am planning on using only 1 piece of glass for each lens and none over the LCD.
Also I will be using the Benq 567 V2 LCD. Slightly better contrast ratio and refresh rate.

Could you please show a more detailed picture of your mounting set up?
Your Idea was how I've envisioned doing it but I have a few design questions that pop in my mind. from time and again if I'm able to see yours more closely I might have mine answered..
Thank you

SACK4000,
Very nice. One of the best yet.
One question.......i am prolly gonna mount my PJ to the ceiling too. I have it all worked out except......How long of a vga cord are you using? Is it a high quality cable? Does it degrade the Picture quality any? The reason i ask is because i bought a 20 foot shielded cable and it added some distortion the the picture. I thought i got a good cable. Maybe i didn't. What cable are you using?
Thanks a lot

I love your avitar. I just watched The Black Hole Last week @ 130" diag. of course.
Here's a closer shot of the mounting device. Basicly it's 1 1/4" sq 14 gage tubing.with 1 1/2" sq 14 gage tubing for the slides. I made it adjustable 2 ways because my ceiling joists aren't centered with the room and I wasn't sure on the distance I needed to the wall for picure size. As you can see I drilled the 4 holes the lag bolts go in large enough for a socket wrench would fit thru only on 1 side and 3/8" on the other so you can't see the bolt heads. I welded a peg on the center slide to mount the hanging bracket to and drilled a hole thru it for a cotter pin. The hanging bracket has a hole the size of the peg so it slids on the peg and you install the cotter pin thru the peg under the hanging bracket alowing it to pivet L/R.
Hope this helps

sack4000,
Your ceiling mount bracket is the best one I have seen among us, reason I picked your one because your one has 4 bolts connecting to joists so it have to be strong and yours looks adjustable to all sides. Best designed space saving projector less complicated no folding is Joe's 3ed last one he built. If some one will build both together that will the best setup we will see here.
Edited Dec 23/2004:
After seeing Haas_man projector man I love that one that beets Joe,s projector

Thanks for the kind words.
The cable i'm using is a 25' VGA straight thru (triple shielded) by QVS.
I bought it at Micro center in St. louis park MN. You can order on line
here I haven't noticed any signal loss at all.
Hope this helps.

I think I understand how it works now. But how do you adjust the tilt of the projector and then lock it in place?

I fabed the mounting bracket out of 1 1/2" X 1" 14 ga steel. I used 3/8" bolts to mount it to the sides of the proj. I drilled a 3/8" hole thru both sides and then drilled a hole thru only one side big enough to fit a socket wrench into.As you can see from the pic. I then used 3/8" T-nuts on the inside of the proj. I used a 3/8" lock washer on the bolt. I inserted the bolt thru the mount and used a socket wrench to tighten it down. The other red circle shows a pice of 5/8" solid round stock welded to the center slide with a hole drilled thru for a bridge pin. the mount has a 5/8" hole drilled in the center. The mount slides over the 5/8" rod and the bridge pin is installed under the mount.
Hope this helps.
