How long do they have to be in order for you to not have to extend them? And if you do have to, how do you know which extension cables you need?

1) They have to be long enough so that you can get the circuit boards rotated out of the way of the light path.
2) You count the number of pins and figure out the spacing between the pins.

blake: A picture of your connector alongside a ruler is all it takes for someone here to figure out what you need. Or you find someone else who stripped the same unit. Safest thing is to post a picture.
