I have built a 15" 1000 watt MH vertical projector. It puts out over 800 ansi lumens to the screen. My screen is just flat white ceiling paint with black packing foam for masking and measures 120" diagonal.

The parts I used were:
1) Gateway FPD 1500 LCD TFT display,15.1" 1024X768@60hz 24-bit color w/AG and tack removed
2) Dukane model 4000 triplet 390mmX80mm clear diameter
3) Dukane dual 330mm sandwiched OHP fresnel
4) 1000 watt metal halide grow lamp 119,000 lumens 5200k BT37 w/M47 magnetic pulse start ballast
5) 5" 238 cfm steel exhaust fan
6) 1 sheet 4'X8' 3/4" MDF

Here's a pic of the fabled beast:

This is basically a test enclosure until I decide on something nicer.

I sure will.I'd like to get a whole case of them.
The closest bt37 I've found so far is 85,000 lumens 5000k

It's possible.I'm calling the place I originally bought it from.If they won't help I'll call philips and see if they can make one.

Those are some great results. Makes me want to dig through the box of parts from three overhead projectors I parted out and see what I can come up with. I gotta ask though, what's the WAF of that enclosure? tongue.gif

Proof's in the pudding and elbeghast is eating some tasty pudding. smile.gif

Almost . . . ALMOST . . . makes me wanna copy this baby. I do have WAF with which to contend. sad.gif

Funny - my wife picked it and I distinctly remember saying to her after reading the title "Not another chick flick - is it?" Well, I was certainly pleasantly surprised a few minutes into the movie!

What are the dimensions on these puppies? Length, diameter (or circumference), and distance from base to center of arc. Seems like a reflector is really not needed.

BTW, I think the enclosure looks just fine. Great use of those spare buckets. All it needs is a lick of paint.

Just curious elbeghast, where did you get your ballast at? post-418-1138467352.gif

I'm not sure Im looking into the right bulb
http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/pr...roducts_id=1761
It is 5000K and 92000 lumens, but was freaked out by the bulbs that had enhanced blue spectrum for plant growth, the other BT37s.

That's the same basic ballast I have, only mine came pre-wired in a housing with the mogul base and all the cords. That one will work great though. That's a good price for a 1000 watt ballast too.

Ok, now I am confused. Does it have both a coil and a ignitor? Are you sure this isn't the bulb you have? This has a 80mm arc and is 5200k, but is not pulse, it is without the ignitor??? http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/pr...products_id=111
These are run on the m47 ballasts. But the pulse start use a m141 ballast.

The ballast I have can run pulse start or standard lamps.I do not know if my lamp is a pulse start but it fires up quick like a pulse start.

That lamp above is very much the same as my lamp.I have more lumens (119,000 on label specs)but that seems to be the only difference.

I don't understand label specs. Do you have a sales slip or is it on the light itself?? Is there not some numbers with that, that you can type out? How is it you have 119,000 from something, and not the product #? I am not riding you, but would love to order this bulb as well. Usually bulbs have an imprint on the bulb. But it should be whereever you are getting the lumen output from. thanks

how come the 165,000 lumens bulb is only $40 and the 92,000 lumens one is $90!?!? wouldnt it make more sence for the higher lumens to be more expensive?

we're looking to do an outdoor projector havent tried even a 400w yet but im really wondering if for that projector we should go with the 1000w ... but we want to maintain the high color temperture of 5200-6000k ... the 1500w looks great but that 4000k is gonna eat into the color i think isnt it?

I am thinking of upgrading my current 400W MH setup to a 1000W MH- I already have the ballast and bulb, but I'm concerned about the heat this monster must put off. What temp does yours run at? BTW, my current setup has two 120mm fans, a piece of lexan as an isolation plate, and a separate box underneath for the ballast w/ an additional 120mm fan. Am I going to fry my LCD if I keep things pretty much the same?

Na that setup should be able to hold up... the 120mm's should give a great airflow and with the isolation plate i really doubt that much heat is getting through to the fresnel and lcd...

I wish the best of the lucks to you stressd, but this info from elbeq should be took (edit; taken?) with extreme caution.

Mine ran at around 80-90degF with two 120mm case fans but they didn't last long(cheap plastic).I ran it with no fans (just out of curiosity)and after about 45min the temp rose to 160degF.Just this week,I have installed a 1/15hp industrial blower (w/cylinder type fan) that keeps my lcd at room temperature. It blows cool air into the projector, across the lcd,and out two clothes dryer vent pipes (one from the light box and one from the lcd side)to the outside of my house.I often leave my projector on for days at a time with absolutely no heat problems.
