Didnt see a TLOG area, but this was the closest to it, so I hope this is cool.

I'm in the process of building my theater room in the unfinished basement. Just putting up the wood needed to brace the drywall. Will be using a T-Bar hanging roof, and running wires etc through the walls to the speakers. The whole front wall will be screen/picture area. About 9 feet wide.

With a picture that big in this smaller room, it should give quite an experience watching flicks I bet.

The HTPC and amps etc will be located just on the other side of the left wall. There is shelves in the storage area there, and I will be able to control it all with a wireless keyboard and gravity mouse.

I will post more as it progresses. Just need help moving the drywall down into the basement from the garage!

Hanging t-bar ceiling is going to make it easy to run wires, and easy to make it look good where it meets the drywall (assuming straight drywall, which in my case depends on whether anyone in my family "helps" me with it.) blink.gif They've got some nice ceiling panels out for them now, no need to stay with the flat institutional panels. Btw, the one above my desk at work has 1463 of those little holes in it. tongue.gif Did you have anything in mind along those lines?

With the whole wall being the screen you could set up steep stadium seating and have your own mini imax. smile.gif

Just wondering, are you going t leave the projector floor mounted?
Please keep the information coming, I am in the same process of adding a room in the basement.
I have the walls up, I just don't know what to do with the floor joists from above to finish the ceiling. I have water lines that run the entire length of one side and don't really want to cover them.

Thanks

Here's a couple of examples of options available for suspended ceilings:

Coffered wood ceiling

Coffered wood with tin inserts

These are suspended ceilings, much easier and cheaper than actually building a real ceiling like this. I'm not involved with this company, I just think that you can get a very nice look for a theater room like this.

I have all kinds of water, electrical and other things up in there too. Also with the un-even-ness of the lid to this room (IE floor joist running across it) I think the suspended option is best. I think it might be good to look into for you too. If you look in my pic, you can even see i have the water R/O system and tank up in there for the kitchen. Removable panel is the best. You can just remove a panel, replace the filters, and put the panel back.

I had a friend over for a while yesterday and he helped me move about 4-5 sheets downstairs, so Im going to get started getting the front wall on soon here.

I will be running all the wires through the walls for speakers. I also thought that I would run a vent pipe from the exhaust of the PJ up into the ceiling, and out to another part of the basement, with the fan out there on the end. Then the fan noise will be gone. Should be pretty silent. (And hidden for the most part in the ceiling.)

Also, I should have mentioned, the PJ is going to hang from the roof. I want it to be semi-inside the roof panels, but we'll see how it progresses. I need to get the screen wall up to be able to get the exact distance i am looking at haning it from to take advantage of as much surface area as possible.

I am also thinking of hanging some kind of curtains or putting some fabric along all the walls for sound absorbtion.

Nice "TLOG". smile.gif I'm just finishing up finishing up my basement too. Instead of a suspended ceiling (metal grid held up by wires) I used a plastic grid that fastens directly to the floor joists. Saves a bit of head room. Just thought I'd mention that in case it sounded of interest to you. (One downside to it is it's not as easy to remove panels for future access.)

Well, i decided against the room in the basement. (Wow a lot has happened since then!)

I see there is now a TLOG area now too... Awesome! I would like to think its because of my origina post!!!! (Big grin!)

I had another space in another room that had the perfect wall, but had all my dvds on it. I took the racks off, patched the holes, and painted it with three coats of MM mix... Holy cow that paint is WHITE. My brother in law was also here over the weekend, so it was the perfect time to mount the PJ from the roof in there.

I used some drawer slides to add some front to back adjustment and we had a test run to figure out where to mount it to the ceiling.(Wow, that part sucked!) This was all after we made a completely custom frame to hang it from using 2x2 and 2x4s along with the stand that came with my haas box. (Thanks haas!)

Its hanging a bit low i think, and i think i can cut the side 2x4s to give it a bit more height. I'm pretty sure the keystoning will handle another inch or two up... Later! lol

Whats left... Need to get the VGA cable for the pj to run into my computer shop just next to this room. Thats where the HTPC will be. (Wireless keyboard and gyro mouse for control) Also, need to place speakers and get it all connected. (And clean the room a bit too! lol)

I still need to route the soft vent pipe hose and fan. I took the fan and Powersupply out of the back of the case. I then attached a dryer vent piece to the back to connect a dryer vent hose to it. (See pics) I will be running the hose directly to the back wall about 2 feet back, and through... Then more hose into the lower basement where the fan will be. NO fan noise!!! I had a full lenght on it last night as a test and didnt get above 80 degrees! Ran the PJ for about 10 minutes though. Prolly will get warmer...

Here are some pics...

One more pic....

I have the PJ set far back enough that the picture in widescreen goes from one side right to the other completely. About 9-10 feet. Nice big pic!!

Check out some new screen shots i took tonight on my plog...
