My 15 year old son found LL on Digg.com and eventually convinced me to help him build a projector. I thought it might make an interesting winter project, but didn't really expect much to show for it. We now have an awesome ghetto home theater with 12' diag image and 5.1 sound from an ebay amp and 5 garage sale speakers. Quite an improvement over our 27" tube connected to a roof antenna.

We used a Dell E152FP monitor with a broken backlight ($75 incl. shipping from ebay), standard LL lenses and light kit, the Ikea napkin ring reflector, lexan from Ace Hardware, a 150 mm CompUSA fan, 2 Radio Shack rocker switches (power/fan and light) and a home built box. Total cost was about $360. We modeled it on Solidworks 3d cad first, which eliminated a lot of trial and error. It has adjustable focus and keystone.

This was a fun, rewarding project. Thanks loads to all the LL experts and forum contributors for sharing their knowledge.

Just a note that technical drawings or even internal pictures are not permitted in the gallery. This is what the PLOGs are for, and one of the things that premium membership is there for.

Thanks for the comments. I will try to add a few more pictures here soon and put the cad files on a private forum. I'm kind of slow to respond because the files are on my son's computer, which seems to be always in use, taken apart, being upgraded, undergoing hardware crisis, being formatted, etc.

The camera makes the pictures a little brighter than reality, but it also exaggerates variations in brightness, like dark corners. The bottom corners of the full screen display are somewhat blurred, but we use it for movies and TV downloads which don't use that part of the display. Overall, it works very well in a fully darkened room.

I still think there must be a problem with the powersupply in my house. For me a mere an 80 inch image with the ushio was completely unacceptable, it got better with venture, antiglare removal and other things I persued to get it brighter, but after all my efforts everyone else appears to get results about as good as mine are now, from the getgo. confusing...

I hope my photos aren't misleading; the camera does make it look brighter. I think it's difficult to reproduce the effect of a projected image on the eye and brain by using a digital photo on a computer monitor. It's only good in a very dark room, and I find myself wishing for a little more brightness during night scenes, etc. Still, the overall effect is very good.
