GRRRRRRRRRR,

We really need to find a solution for controlling these LVDS panels.
This family of small high res LCD's came out 2 years ago, and not much like it has since. I just found this one which I didnt know existed..... 5.6" diag!!!! 1024x600 LCD.

Read this:

there are mini ATX motherboards available with LVDS onboard for about $100.

DIY people who install a computer in their car use this to interface 8" lcds with their computer. look for more on www.mp3car.com

Yes, I have read that,
but I was under the impression that mini-mobo wont drive just any LVDS panel. I might just grab one and try it.
One thing is almost certain, it wont support 1024x600 in windows.
But can I get around this by installing powerstrip or somthing? Im a mac guy (not totaly by choice, berklee college of music has tuned me into one!) so I have been out of the PC loop for a while.
ricoks
actually, the boards are a little more than $100 for a board with LVDS. PLUS, you need the adaptor daughter board that plugs into the LVDS port on the motherboard. Its not a direct Plu-n-play.

Thanks Ricoks. I have been waiting for an 'enlightened one' to reply.

your absolutley right too.

A seperate connector board and cable kit is required. You can make your own cable if your really "into" tiny HIROSE connectors, 30 gauge wires, and following pinout directions. But Im still left to wonder about 1024x600 support even with the ATX MINI, LVDS module and cable kit. Digital view says it wont work, but I wonder if they are inclined to say that to sell product. Here it is straight from the digital horses' mouth.....

QUOTED:
"Hello Joshua,

This display is listed in our controller solution generator, but it also
says it has not been tested and we would need to write new firmware to
support the 1024 X 600 resolution of this display. In order to do that, you
would have to buy a minimum of 100 pcs., and there would be an
NRE(non-recurring engineering) charge of a minimum of $2500.00.

Regards,
Tim"

Group buy anyone?.......yeah, I didnt think so. But hey its possible.

Ricoks,
Your not from RI are you? If not, you should know that Rhode Island's state bird is none other than the proud rooster, or cock.

There may have been a sports team bearing that name in the 50's..... but there stats likley declined due to constant teasing, and premature judgments of there ability to perform as a team due to the unfortunate circumstanses of the double-entandra.

If thats a coincidence..... its probably the most awsome and hilarious coincidence I have come across in many moons.
If its not a coincidence.... we should get a beer or somthing, Im from Providence, living in Boston

Hi Yoshua,

Are you bidding on a LCD controller on ebay ? What panel are you going to use it with ? I have few NEC6448BC33-59. I alson need a controller for one of them so that I can hook it up in my truck.

cheers
yoshuaspawn
Yes, i bid on that in haste... I dont even think that controller has onboard lvds. so by all means Willy, snipe away my good sir! I still had the high bid last i looked (30 or 40 bucks is my max bid, i forgot). You dont have to outbid me if no one else bids on it. I will just give it to you for what it goes for, and have him ship it to you.

Belive it or not, i have been messing around with making an svideo to composite to mini-plug cable on my 8.9" version of this panel(also 1024x600 poly silicon toshiba), from my powerbook ,it looks quite decent when i set the resolution to 720x480@60hz and color calibrate a bit. I primarily watch DVDs anyway, and i integrate the portable dvd player right into my projector from which the 8.9"lcd came . So I have a pure and progressive high resolution digitlal feed most of the time anyway. I dont do much gaming, so it works well for me.
FreeWilly
OK I will let you take it.

Let me know if you don't want it and I will buy it from you.

My panels are all 640X480 so I am not planning on spending big bucks for it.

have fun.
FreeWilly
so how did you make s-video to composite to mini-plug cable ?

any diagrams? where do you buy materials from ?
yoshuaspawn
Willy, I will offer you the controller for what it cost me if I win the auction, should be between 30 and 50 bucks. Or better yet Try to snipe me at the last minute(if Im still the high bidder) by bumping it a buck. That would be easiest for both of us smile.gif

As far as the plug goes, my powerbook came with a s-vid to composite adapter.
The only input on the portable dvd plyer I srtipped is mini-plug(like the psone av in)

So I got the mini-cable, which also has audio RCAs.
I dont really need the audio, because it can just as easily come from the output source.
So I took the mini plug cable apart, and removed the audio wires in hopes to reduce any interference. Then I got a nice 3' Monster cable, and replaced the original video wire with the monster cable, by simply sniping of one end, and soldering the mini-plug tip on there.

Im not sure how much of a differance it made, but I get a good picture. Im going to post side by side image comparisons of the same frame when i start the new plog.

350 bucks + 150 lvds mother board? Maybe you need to have a look at this:

Ummm,
OK?
Thats what I use in my pj dude. Its a fine TFT, just like the 5.6" version this thread is about. The problem is that theres no VGA input. Its a mini-plug a/v in, which many consider unexeptable as an input. Especaily if you were wanting to use your pj for gaming. There's no VGA/digital input.
Hence... "Toshiba is driving me crazy"

Shouldnt it be possible to hack a VGA input??

Seems like it would be possible any way.
