Its called the pioneer spirit Some of us like to find parts here and there, some are cheap and have to buy one part at a time, some like to buy it all in one place like from LL.

It's all part of DIY.

True but make damn sure it's still DIY if one buys it from Lumenlab, they didn't make my 2 way light bracket, nor my exhaust, nor build my box, nor my lcd holder, nor my tempered glass, nor my fresnel holders etc etc.......

I bought my UV filter (cause I used tempered glass instead of Lexan), ballast, mogul, bulb, fresnels and triplet from LL. I am happy I did cause there are so many other parts to buy from HD or other stores and then the hours spent building.

I also went and bought a socket, fuse holder and switch separately.......then checked the LL store one day and saw and ALL IN ONE socket/fuse/switch!!!!!!!!!! Oh well biggrin.gif

Mikelish is correct. That kit has only recently been introduced. Also, some try to buy their parts separately off of ebay or other lower cost options. That is not to say that the price of the kit is not a good one. Unless you are really strapped for cash and need to build this thing the absolute cheapest you can, which will likely sacrifice some quality, then you are probably better off just buying the kit as these are the currently accepted top of the line parts.

Umm I’m sure plenty of people would disagree with that, while the LL kit as a whole is an easy way to get started buying the kit is no promise of quality, and on the same note saving cash, buying used parts or designing a new plan does not mean giving up a great picture.

Some people have a taste for different bulbs and different parts, buying the mega kit is a great answer if you don’t want to search for pieces and parts.

I certainly never stated, or meant, that designing a new plan meant a decrease in quality. Take the Haas design for example. I would agree that trying to buy used or cheaper parts is not necessarily going to cause a decrease in quality, but it certainly can. The parts in the mega kit are the ones that have been the most tried and true. Bulb choices can differ, and have. We have been through many bulbs here, but the newer ones are usually chosen for a reason. In my experience, unless you know what you are doing, you will save yourself a lot of time, and decrease your chances of buying something sub-par by going with the kit. Really, the only real things in it up for debate are the light bulb and the fan. The lenses are the standard, and the wiring kit is pretty much what you would use anyways. If you feel uncomfortable needing to choose parts, the megs kit is a good place to start without unnecessarily confusing yourself concerning the many other options out there. Certainly nothing guarantees quality, especially since craftmanship and design play such a large role, but the kit is a good place to start.

Another reason might be that many PJ builders are outside of the US. Shipping things overseas from Lumenlab is very expensive, so many people prefer to source things locally to save on shipping, even if the components themselves are slightly more expensive.

yea i understand. i was just asking because i thought the kit might not produce good enough quality and that was the reason for buying sperate parts. Thanks for proving me wrong though.

Now if that was the question I can say I would have the utmost faith in the LL mega kit, I my self have not gotten one and the only LL parts I have is my triplet (bought used), But I just know Brain and the LL crew aren't out to sell you junk.

My last tip before you buy... read. Read. And read some more threads on here. Then feel free to ask. The folks on here will answer.

And most of all have fun with it.
