Well, I took a gamble and ended up with the newer metro monitor with the FFC issue.
What are the criteria for knowing if an FFC extender will work?

Doesn't look like 3EB's LCD in a couple of major respects...

Wow. I stripped one of those right before Christmas, and didn't have an FFC issue at all.
An extender should work, you use the existing cable for part of it, and extend one end or the other, whichever is the most likely to be a standard FFC extension.

Yeah my dell 1702FP does the exact same thing there are 3 differant mainboards w/ differant style casings (one of them is even made by samsung) yet all carry the same model number, totally weird.
the FFC cable is even moved around to various places, I wonder why they've started doing that w/out changing the model?
