ChristmasGT
hey there, I was doing some wondering around checking my progress when I noticed that Brainchild and superdave (from DIYaudio) seem to both have differant boards than me when it comes to the dell 1702FP

This normally wouldn't bother me except On on revision the FFC that needs extending is actually pointed downward (this is how my Tear happened) while the other board is a straight FFC cable.

The one w/ the straight version FFC seems to be manufactured by Samsung (look at superdavos it has a very clear Samsung logo on it, but the rest of the boarding and paneling is identical except the LCD Mainboards)

The only way I can tell that brains must be the Samsung is from the Gold Screw Rings and the Grey Chip that sticks out through the backside of the board

My current Dell doesn't seem to have that, the FFCs are the exact same length so no worrys there about the extension needed, but could this also effect the contrast? since both boards are made by differant manufacturers?

here's a link to Superdavo's LCD strip guide which I followed (everything is identical except FFC and LCD mainboard)

SuperDavo's 1702FP Teardown

The last thing is, why switch to a differant style of board w/out changing the model name? it's a fairly obvious change as on board is made by samsung and one by apparently dell, does anyone know which mainboard the exceptionally high contrast ratio was tested on?

My new Dell has just arrived and I was able to almost totally tear it down, as I suspected there are indeed 2 dell 1702FPs!

I noticed that the backlight board was also A little differant also I'll put pictures up of the 2 side by side later on when I get finished with some things I have to do tonight and tear it down completely (I can see the gold "rings" on the back of the Samsung board)

After completely dismantaling my board I'm rather at a loss, the FFC Connector is totally differant and there is a THIRD type of board, it looks alot like the Dell board except it has a few gold connectors and there is NO white frame.

I haven't decided if I'm going to finish my project now, I'm somewhat fearful about breaking yet another 130 dollar board, I have absolutely everything needed to finish the projector and the LCD is becomming increasingly problematic.
