I currently have used a MT (or cant remember) 400SX/HOR bulb and have a coil ballast, cap and ignitor for it.

What i am wondering is if i could use either the S400DD or T15 with it. I unsure how to tell what ballast will work with what type of bulb. I did a search of the forums for the 400SX, but it seems not many/any have used it.

Thanks
magel
The s400dd require a electronic ballast so you can't use your current ballast with it

This is the Coil ballast that I use w/ my S400DD, I believe it only works with that one specific bulb if I remember Correctly, it was 36 Shipped smile.gif

What i dont understand is what makes a ballast compatible/incompatible. Is it frequency? voltage? Amps?

I tried to look up the stats on the Mt 400SX, and they looked similar/the same to a few venture bulbs. If I bought a venture bulb and for some reason it was incopatible, what would happen, would it blow up? fizzle? light up and bloqw the ballast/cap? or would it just have a limited lifespan?

The current limiting factor is also an important parameter. Lamps and ballasts in the U.S. are rated with an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) number. Any lamp with a specific ANSI# will run on any ballast with the same ANSI #.

Does anybody know if there is a European equivalent to this standard?
