hello there, the power supply that I bought on ebay that was GUARONTEED to be compatible with the dell 1702FP wasn't compatable at all with it, it has a totally differant male plug end I was wondering if I bought the proper plug from radioshack and put it on if it would work or not (the Power Supply itself has the correct amperage and voltage)

My next thing is I've lost my ZIF Connector for the FFC Extension, is there ANY other way to remedy this problem or will I have to go out and purchase a new Extension kit?

I'm so very very close to haveing this completed and am totally excited the LCD should Arrive tommorrow, and I'd like to get it going asap smile.gif

If you can find a connector that will fit the LCD correctly, get the polarity right, and the power supply is putting out the correct voltage at the right amperage, it cant do anything but work, if the LCD isn't dead smile.gif

I'd think the connector that came with the extension kit would be hard to find locally. I've seen people glueing the ends together and clamping them with various things and it seemed to work. If it was me I'd really prefer that connector though cause it holds them very tight and it won't become an issue in the future to deal with.

ya you should be able to use the powersupply.. finding the right end might be trixy, you may need to rig something up.

As for the zif connector.. if you cannot find it then you can try a binder clip.. ya know.. those black metal things with silver tabs used to open the clip. you'll have to line up both FFC perfectly then use the clip to keep them together..

Then test.. and if it works use hotglue to set everthing so it never moves again. If it doesnt work reposition the FFCs and test again..

lol brilliant! that'd also be way less stressful then fitting them in that ZIF thats where I accidently tore the Extension on accident.

I don't know how to check the polarity on the Power supply it is a C facing to the right on the back, so whats that mean? Negative?

The "C" is actually indicating the outside of the barrel connector and there is a line through the opening in the "C" pointing to the inside of the barrel. The outside of the barrel should be negative and the inside connection positive. I've never seen one the other way around but it's possible I guess. If you have a ohm/continuity checker you can determine which wire is connected to the outside of the barrel and which goes to the inside connector so you will know which wire goes where on your new connector.

arg i don't have an ohm reader sad.gif I do totally see what you're saying though

Is their any other way to find out by chance?

I can't think of any other way smile.gif Maybe you could borrow one. Plug in the adapter and use a voltmeter to determine polarity or leave it unpluged and use a ohm/continuity tester. I've seen some of the really cheap multimeters at auto parts stores for less than $20. They are junk but would work fine for what you need it for.
