Finally...
All the neccessary improvements are finalized resulting in a brighter projector with a quiet fan, no light leaks, and a lightweight case.
The case exterior won't be finished for a couple weeks. The track system is still a bit rough and unfinished.
-Liquidvideo 1512
-USHIO bulb
-light engine
-80mm quiet case fan
-3 speed fan control with fan fault alarm
-external ballast
-lower profile, lighter weight case with aluminum top
-track mounted to for huge widescreen feature showing
If you guys want any more or specific shots let me know.

Showing small amount of escaping light. You can only see light from fan if sitting at an angle to the PJ. Would be easy to add a louver or something for 0 light

This Lilu shot is great to show overall brightness and detail. Lower brightness PJ's will make the left side of the image dark with the wall behind Lilu dark and muddled.
If anyone wants to see any particular shots of any image or movie let me know.
Next shots will be new PJ with Benq 576s V2
I have used the EYE bulb all weekend because of a USHIO problem. The USHIO is definitely brighter and whiter. The whiter light makes everything look better.

Brighter compared to original plans. I am sure you have read about all the advancements and just tweaking aside from that.
Is there a protected PJ project forum now?

Thats kind of a mishmash of screen crap. It is the 122" wide celtic from Dazian pinned up behind the screen I have been painting and experimenting with. The new screen from 122" celtic will be done in the coming weeks.

What's the color temp of the USHIO ?.
Jo, shadow detail to the left of her ear almost looks too good. I never saw that area of the image so pronounced.
What are the main differences (assuming there are) between the images you've posted, and what you see in real life ?.

I hear ya about too good. The monitor setting on my laptop was a bit too bright. The last pic through the N6 shows more realistic brightness.
The VGA pics look overbright in reality and pics. There isn't a lot of difference other than the pic with me in it and the one showing PJ hanging has an overbright image due to cam adjusting brightness/contrast. You can see Lilu's cheek pores in real life.
OOPS... I forgot to add the pic file for this post:

The small quiet fan with lightbox is "the sh*t" on this baby. I can literally whisper quietly and be heard perfectly. I have 12V power from the LCD board going through a 3 speed/alarm circuit. I havent tested running it on lowest speed for long periods yet, but high speed is very quiet so I leave it there. I am sure having a heat conductive aluminum lid on it helps dissipate heat as well.
HUGE change from loud ass fan and blinding light coming out of the rear!

May 17 2004, 09:49 PM
Have had the fan on lowest speed for about 30min now. The air coming out is a bit warmer and the aluminum lid is a bit warmer. Its cool because you can feel the varying temp of different areas of the box with the aluminum lid. It is warmest above the light, cooler around the LCD, past the LCD it is coolest and room temp.

That thing looks bad ass. What are you going to do about getting too much light though? You're pics are awesome in detail but too bright !! Few running questions:
-Camera used? Settings?
-Running temp?
-Can we get some inside pics and some measurements in the protect projector design? This looks great.
[edit] also could you play some halo on the projector or go to redvsblue.com and download a video so we can see some good ole halo on the projector.

I know I am a little late to start in with the questions on this. . .
you did a great job making it work so that you see everything, even the dark spots like the wall behind the head on the left, but I wonder if we were meant to see that wall?
I was thinking about this a few weeks ago [when I had time to watch a movie]. I saw the Matrix third movie and what really made me think about it was that the fuzzy kids said it was time to water the stop sign, and I powered down the commercial jobby, then I picked up with just the television because it was close to bed time. In the parking lot to the gateway to HELx all of the sudden I could not tell what cars were parked in there. It was void darkness on the tv but I had just seen all those cars.
Is there some standard? or is our goal to see everything? or is there a way to set it up 'as it was meant to be' somehow? like a while back people posted those monitor tuning web pages with the circles and lines and contrast bars.
I think braindude went through this once with the ape planet stuff. . . it is in the bbs somewhere.

sounds like your tv brightness and contrast is not set right, i can see the building behind lelu on the fith eliment just fine on tv.... and also on my projector, not as pronounced as joe's but still see it very well.

This may not be the place to talk about this (probably better in the standards of measurement thread), but there are discs available that enable you to tune your setup.
I have one called the Ultimate DVD platinum bought from dvdboxoffice in Canada, it has a series of test patterns with instructions on how to adjust your set (haven't used it for a lifetime cause I can do it now by sight ), it also has surround sound tests including sub woofer and rattle tests so you can track down those anoying rattling windows etc.
If your not sure how to properly set contrast and brightness for the best image I would recommend something like this.
Essentially though your black should be as black as possible without diminishing shadow details. Brightness does effect contrast and vice versa so it does take some fiddling to get the optimal setting, but well worth it when you find it.
I've also found that you need to to this on a fairly regular basis (at least with CRT technology), as the dynamics of the tube change with use. Hopefully lcd will be a little more tolerant to aging etc.
Oh, and turn the colour saturation down so you get natural colours. Try setting it on a live sports broadcast (generally very good colour). I don't know why but every time I walk into a hifi shop selling tv's all the people are orange... How that helps sell a set is beyond me.
Cheers,
Arkay.

Just wondering how heavy your final projector is.

Just wondering how heavy your final projector is.
Just a few pounds. It is the weight of the glass, LCD, lenses, bulb, mogul base, power adapter, and fan. As you could guess, all of that is very light. The biggest contributor to weight is the glass and bulb/mogul base.
Although, when all glued together, the box becomes quite rigid, I would recommend using a thicker, or at least more rigid, material. This just helps keep everything straight during building etc.
