Heating and light leakage problems solved.
Pics to follow later, tonight.

Ok, so here's what I did to solve the heating problems (which included an overheating ballast)
In addition to the fans shown above, I cut a hole in the floor box which increased air flow tremendously and added an external fan to the ballast. We've had it on for about 5 hours a night since the Olympics began with no problems.
My only complaint is that it's becoming a bit of Frankenstein's monster. I'm not a fan of all the wires.

Now, all that ventilation ensured that the box glowed like a christmas tree. Light leakage was horrible. Now, I have no noticeable leakage apart from the fans on the rear of the box.
These are cut up re-usable hepa filters for airconditioning systems. I bought it Target for $15. This particular brand comes with a charcoal filter which is what blocks the light. On intakes I mount the charcoal filter on top of the other filter material in order to prevent debris entering the box. The filter comes with a plastic grid frame, too. Works perfectly.

First, sorry if any of these are rehashes of previously asked stuff. I've actually had time to view two movies in the past month

and am hoping to get back into the projector project again sometime soon. (HA! My RoGR stuff has shipped. Double HA!! I'm doomed!!!

)
How are you liking the color balance? Have you made any attempts at adjusting things like in
Natural Newbie's topic?
Do you feel dark scenes are a little lacking? (too dark to see all the detail)
What screen are you using?
Glad things are coming together for you!

Compared to the 400w I'm pleased with the color balance. I'm looking forward to the new monitor which has a remote. So, I can fine tune thing. But, overall the whites are much whiter.
I've not seen that post before - reading it now.
I have not noticed the dark scenes to be lacking in detail, but I'll keep an eye out for that. I run everything through ffdshow, though. So, I'm constantly adjusting. I convinced my neighbor to run his commercial projector from an htpc with ffdshow and the contrast on his machine was stunning.
I made a screen out of plywood using one of the mississippi mud mixes.

I'm glad you posted this! I couldn't remember exactly what you had said about solving your light leakage. I may have to try it. How's that new graphics card working out for you?

Quite non-restrictive to airflow, eh? I'll have to check those out! Thanks!

Ok. SXGA+ monitor arrived on Monday. I've done a paste up install and it works great. Thanks Jimbo!
However, I'm determined to use my sleigh and have a lot of framing issues to solve. Plus, I need to remove the anti-glare layer - man does that make a big difference.

Anti-glare came off in one piece after a 45 minute water soak. Monitor working great. Absolutely no screen door. That alone is worth it.
Still a couple of light leakage issues and the image is a bit smaller - going to have to reposition a few things.
Pics to follow.

OK, well that just didn't work. The monitor is too small and I can't get the projection I need with a 14" lcd. Back to XGA.
The monitor's great, but not the right size. Everything I have is fixed to 15" it turns out.

OK, turns out with a 265 mm triplet I can make this work. Problem is my current box has become an oversized Frankenstein's Monster. So, it's on to Build # 3.

So I wuz @ Home Despot this morning and find only one similar filter - about 2 x 2 feet and when held up to light didn't look very opaque. Can you give me a better feel for exactly what you bought - even a brand name or something? How thick. Color on both sides. Maybe a good picture of it with a light behind it. I'll keep looking and check our local Target as well but thought maybe you could give me a better feel for this stuff.

I need to go to target this afternoon - I'll look it up. Unfortunately, I don't have the info, here.

I get this when I click that link:

I strongly suspect you're using something other than what I found though since you say "hepa". I think that means a fairly "fine" filter and the one I saw was rather "coarse". But . . .
Edit: Before someone corrects me I know a filter which can remove almost all 5 (or whatever) micron particles doesn't have to have a pore size of <=5 microns. It's just this one I saw was WAY coarse.
