The Vantec Stealth fans are very quiet and available at most computer stores.

Here's the 120MM one with 28dba.

One thing I found for both PC's and PJ's is that some rubber/silicone washers ($.92 at lowes per pair) will drastically reduce the noise just place them where ever your fan is making contact with anything.

Does that fix work for cpu fans, or just for case fans? In the PC I just built, the cpu fan is rediculously loud, and I don't wanna replace the whole thing, but have no idea how to quiet it down.

Any other suggestions?

This fan only have 56 CFM, do i have to buy two of them?

I mounted my 120mm fan with weather strip like you buy on a roll to go around house doors and windows. I put two strips around it and shoved it in the duct I made for it. The fan stays in one place and has no contact with the PJ case anwhere to transfer any noise. Works really well so far. Of course it depends on how your mounting your fan as to if this would be an option.

The CFM requirements would depend on your boxs cooling needs. I like to have a margin for error so in my opinion, the more CFM the better, up to what ever your personal threshold for noise, size, etc. is.

If vibration is your problem, there are vibration dampners for both 120mm and 80mm fans for sale in the Lumenlab store. smile.gif

If it's a 12v fan then you can always add a speed control circuit to it. Get fancy and have a thermistor control it for you too.

Something like This Circuit. There's lots more besides this one, you can also buy kits from a decent electronics store.

im going to try this out. It seems that it has the best cfm to dba ratio. Pulls 94cfm at 30dba...also has a built in speed adjuster...This about as good as you will get with a regular style 120mm fan.

use foam/weather stripping to isolate the fan from the projector wall and you might also want to try some non-conductive lubricant on the fan.
