You really learn alot making your first PJ. From the start my goals with my second projector were maily to bring more adjustability to the table with a future-proof box design. After two months in the garage and thinking of these "new ideas" I finnaly have a remarkable PJ with incredible results. I learned alot from everyone here and I want to share my ideas so we can all make our PJ's even more remarkable.

I made this box as modular as possible, I assembled everthing, tested, painted the box, then re-assembled. It takes about 20 min to fully dissassemble it, and about an hour on assembly.

Some specs on the PJ:

BenQ 567v2
Usio S400DD
Ikea Napkin holder reflector
400w Ice Cap Ballast
LL lens kit - the updated lenses
GateWatch AeroCool fan controller (4 fans and 4 temp probes)
Da-Lite QLC-1622 Television mount
85" 4:3 BO Cloth Screen

New PJ left, old one right. New box dimensions are (internal) 30x15x12". Mainly to accomodate a future reflector design in the works here at LL, and the S400DD bulb.

This is my LCD and lens frame/sled

I cut the inner rings off of a 120mm fan grill and JB welded it to the back of the reflector, idea here is I can mount using 4 bolts enabling the angle of the reflector to be perfectly aligned to the triplet.
Posted Image

The triplet is bolted to a 3" PCV ring, and then the ring slides inside a 3" coupler and stops againts the lip inside the coupler. Using Lock nuts to and #6 bolts I can now adjust the angle of the triplet easily. This simply slides inside of a 4" PVC. If you find a coupler with a little nub on one outside edge, buy it, it will take the play away and keep the coupler snug inside the 4" pipe.
Posted Image

The reflector and lamp are fully adjustable down/up and back/forward (reflector) and Side to side for the lamp. Once everything is aligned, the whole sled then moves from 235mm to 180mm from the frensel. This distance can be adjusted while the PJ is running by turning the knob in the rear of the PJ. I am so glad I spent the extra time here, because on my first test fire - the spillage hitting the triplet was DEAD ON center! Final possition is 210mm - just as planned.

The track system for the Da-Lite TV mount. Now I can adjust my image size easy.
Posted Image

PJ is in and ready. This mount has 360 deg swivel and up to 30 deg tilt - a fully adjustable mount!
Posted Image

85" 4:3 BO Cloth screen, frame is one-by 45'ed then glued and screwed with picture frame clamps and L- corner braces on the back side for stiffnes.
Posted Image

Just to show how even the brigtness is for comparision to other PJ's (I know I always wanted to see this on everyones PJ's)

Some of the clearest, cleanest looking screen shots i have seen on the whole site for sure...

Cool mount too... How far away from the screen (how far back) is the pj?

Bang yer mellon on the PJ yet? Might be just the pic, but it looks like it hangs pretty low?

I want to mount mine on the ceiling too, so thats why I want to know how you like yours up there?

Amazing pictures though!

Triplet to screen is about 71" The PJ is mounted above my bed, so traffic under the PJ is minimal, have not banged my head yet, but I prob will now that you said that

I love your idea about the JBWeld and the Napkin Holder!! Brilliant!! :)

How far away is your lamp from the rear fresnel? I'm sorry if it seems lame to ask, but there seems to be some different opinions about what's 'optimal'.

Since you've got great results, I wanted to know...

Thx.

Daytime viewing is now tolerable. My old PJ there was no way I could even watch with 2 small lamps on, let alone in daytime. I will get around to posting some more shots soon.

I have the same bulb and LCD as you. I have yet to find a suitable reflector. Can you tell me the difference in image brightness/quality with the napkin holder reflector?

Oh and by the way... great pics! :D

Great job on your PJ with clarity and brightness; I have been thinking about doing a slide myself where the light also
moves back and forth to the fresnel lens for spillage at the triplet but was unsure if this was over kill but seeing you have
done this would you agree the extra time for the adjustment is well worth it

Since I was not able to fully adjust my old norpro bowl on my old PJ, I personally cannot say the difference it made, but others say there is no difference in brightness between the napkin holder or the norpro (makes sense case they are almost the same diameter). The napkin holder is alot more versatile and requires little or no cutting. All I did to mine was cut the handle off and polish it up with monthers metal polish. I recommend you pick one up from jo@jowerb, thats where I got mine.

I also have a Linen-N-Things bowl (the small double walled one 5 1/4" Dia) it is a tad smaller then the napkin holder and would probably yeild better results. Maybee I will whip out the dremell again and cut it down to size like the napkin holder and mount it likewise. The smaller the reflector the better but nothing smaller then 4" diameter for the S400 bulb. Soup ladle would work great too but I could not find one bigger then 3 1/2" that was somewhat polished.

Thanks everyone for the great comments!

yes it is well worth it, it will save you from making a new enclosue or making last minute mods. My LCD sled moves the same way but I did not run the bolt through it yet, as in my testing moving the LCD away from the first lens really did not change anything.
