The Dyson "Animal" Vacuum Cleaner, 500 bucks and 3 years later. Options

I have been meaning to do this for a while but I have to confess that I LOVE my vacuum cleaner.
Perhaps this isnt the normal thing for a guy to say, but this is NOT your average vacuum cleaner. I was looking for a good machine that was allergy friendly and this device was named as a candidate. I read over 250 reviews each praising it for its design and it's incredibly effective way of dealing with dust.

The previous Vac we had was a Hoover Hepa Elite. It was not sealed well and each time I used it, we had sneezes all over the house for a day. Plus the bags were ungodly expensive.

So I read more and then realized that they were sold at Best Buy. Throwing caution to the wind, I went and bought one, brought it home and unpacked it. Love...sheer love. Its actually a pretty solid, but not heavy cleaner and the design makes it all the more fun. I could actually reach the top of my stairs with the suction wand and they gave me a 35 foot cord. Its nice little touches like that that really make it a good work.

But its the suction power that got me. I accidentally hit my hand with the wand and the suction was so powerful it pulled the unit towards me. Arrgghhh!!! I love it!

So the final test began...I brought it upstairs and got out the old cleaner. I vacuumed that bedroom to within an inch of it's life. I raised dust and I thought that would be good. Then I took my new shiny Dyson and ran 1/2 the room...

First off let me say that we had steam cleaned those carpets less than two months ago. I wasnt expecting much, but I got a TON of very fine dust, sand and small dirt particles out of the rug. I got so much out that I had to empty it twice. I saved the other side for my wife.

She was awestruck as well.
But the best part was that the room didnt have dust in the air afterwards. The thing had even cleaned out the floating dust from the other machine. No sniffles and sneezes from the family, just really clean rugs and well lofted carpets.

Three years later ( and no bags to purchase!) this Vac is still running stong and really does an excellent job at keeping the house clean.

If you are on the fence about a new vacuum, then look no further than the Dyson line. They EASILY thrash the likes of Electrolux and Kirby for 1/3 to 1/5 the price and no surprises. Allergy sufferers...THIS is your machine.

Yeah...I really love my vacuum.

Pros:
Powerful suction, good tools, well thought out machine. Leaves NO particles in the air. Great for allergy sufferers.

Cons:
The price, initially is offsetting, but if you factor in bag cost for three years you come out ahead.
Suction can be too powerful. If it gets suddenly covered, the hose can lash back on you.

Overall Impression:
If it is possible to hold affection for a simple machine this one will win it by sheer performance and durablity. Its THAT good.

MY first bagless, cyclonic vacuum cleaner was the Fantom Fury, that I picked up around '96. I've been a user of this same type of bagless vacuum cleaner, since.

My current vacuum is a Dirt Devil Scorpion bagless that I got from Walmart or Zellers for about $70.

I bought the Dyson Animal Ball style from Sears 3 months ago. It was on sale for $300.

OMG it is the best $300 I have EVER spent on a vacuum. I seriously will never buy any vacuum other than a Dyson now.

I have had Kirby's, Dirt Devils, Hoovers, Kenmores. I had a cleaning service for 8 years and had commercial vacuums. And I will NEVER go back. This vacuum is awesome. I sleep with it......

Well anyway it is the best vacuum in the world, hands down.

I know its a competitive market ,but this has always struck a chord with me.

Imagine how YOU would feel, if you had worked for Mr Dyson when he switched production ......
800 jobs lost in the UK, although I was not directly affected I'd never buy a Dyson product.

Corporate greed is too widespread ,thanks but No Mr Dyson

I’ve had a Dyson for about 6 years now, still going strong. I find the most notable thing is the lack of that vacuum cleaner smell that all the conventional ones seem to acquire.

So I take it you arent driving ANY type of car?
To date, there isnt one car maker on record who hasnt cut productions in their home country and "re-allocated" production lines to save themselves.

My dad bought a refurbished Kirby.
It's all metal & does have a bag, but it was how full the bag was after he used it on his recently shampoo'd carpet that blew his mind.

I had a Eureka bagless from walmart.
spent $125 on it. 8 months later it just stopped sucking.
It was also just a dirty mess to use.

Then I saw a Bissell 12 amp bagless job for $50 on sale.

HOLY COW!!

You can feel this thing trying to suck the floorboards through the carpet.

I, like my father had recently shampoo'd the carpet. (i'll tell ya a refurbished shampoo'er is a great investment.)
And I was able to fill the canister once & then half-way with dog hair.

That's power on a budget.

It cost $50.
I don't expect it to last forever.
But if it lasts at least 2 yrs i'll be happy.

Though, I have a blue-green Hoover Up-right that is mostly all metal from the early 80's in my basement.
This thing sounds & feels like an industrial lawn mower when you turn it on.
The light's dim, the earth shakes.
I refuse to get rid of it as i've had it for a very long time & it's one of those things from my past I refuse to let my wife get rid of.

Isn't it amazing that the Dyson vacuum cleaner can cause so much joy? I don't know why, i don't like vacuuming and i absolutely hate the sound of vacuum cleaners however the sheer design of the Dyson makes it feel like you've received a super powered racer.

When I first started using it, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I kept seeing the carpet "sort of moving" but after a while I figured out that the motion I thought I saw on the carpet was real. It was such a powerful suck that it actually flattened out the pad beneath.
