Hey gang,
I just bought a " Hyperkin Game Projector v.3" on ebaY. I got it for a few reasons. 1) It's cheap! [$159.99 + 39.99 s&h - 10% ebay coupon] = $184 shipped 2) Replacement bulbs are $15-$20. 3) Should be fine for daughters room. (her Dvd's and Wii) I am wondering if it will be any better than the Torpedo or Zoombox? Think this thing can be modded to take a better/brighter bulb and a better LCD panel? I bet it would be good for your daughter, but at that price you could build yourself a low end projector that is probably going to be nicer.
48 inch optimal size isn't very big (half the size of what you could easily have with a DIY projector). Your daughter will surely enjoy having a projector though

I really liked this comment on Amazon: "This is the worst projector that money can buy, recommend you spend your money elsewhere on a higher quality projector. This is nothing more than a plastic box with a light bulb in it."
Would I waste my money on this? No. I like the common marketing scam of stating the resolution as 960 x 234. They're counting each red, green and blue pixel. The actual resolution is 320 x 234. -------------------- ----------------------------------

I have a real nice projector based on a PSone LCD thats 320x240 rez -- it works nice, but yea you would not want to have more than 50in to 60in screen I wish they would make a quality and cheap low rez projector, for a party or a kids room But yea I want some pictures of that Game Projector , see its guts and stuff |

Alas, you have have good, cheap, and reliable, but only if you pick 2.
The eVo was good image, and cheap, but Chinese reliability.  These type of things seem to be cheap and reliable, but the image... Maybe not so much. Most commercial presentation/theater projectors have a nice image, and are solidly reliable, but aren't cheap.For the OP: Things that I note: 1. Lamp Life: 1000 hours. What's the lamp replacement cost? Will you be able to get one in a couple of years? Compare that to readily available 250W MH lamps with 20,000 hour life expectancies... 2. Resolution: 960X234. *cough* *cough* Bulls__t *cough* *cough* They're counting each red, green and blue sub-pixel there. It's 320X234. At 48" this is going to look blocky. This res might also be okay for some games, but for FPS games or anything else that requires some detail, an old TV set is going to be as good or better. 3. Input source. It's specified once as RCA (composite) and once as S-Video. Of course both are 480i capable at best, but I wonder which you actually get. Seems funny that neither spec says both... -------------------- -- In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

SupraGuy: The seller states the replacement blubs/lamps are $15. I have read other statements that they are under $20.
Once I get the unit I'll post as much info, pictures, and video as possible. Telekenetix: As far as building a DIY projector... I don't have the required skill to accomplish such a feat. I successfully made an OHP + LCD build a few months ago. It was loud, hot, and had poor lamp life. On top of that, it looked awful! hehe. It took up a ton of room too. On the plus side, it did work. Well... for a little bit anyway. The LCD panel I used quickly developed a vertical line right down the center! A day later a horizontal line popped up close to the bottom. My wife raised an eyebrow. Enough said. I sold the OHP, and boxed the rest of the stuff. It was fun to do it, but the OHP build is not for me. I don't think I have the nerve and patience to attempt a standard DIY projector with an enclosure. If this "Hyperkin Game Projector" doesn't work out, I will turn to modding a retail projector. I found a couple versions on www.Instructables.com Automotive Headlight Projector Mod V1.2 or Halogen Work Light Projector Mod V2.0 Who knows. Maybe one day i'll pony up for a REAL projector. (  )

( )I have 3 of the projectors shown in the "Head-Light-Projector-Mod-V1.2" all halogen models, and the condenser lens exploded on every one of them, they are good projectors, and well made but with that fatal flaw, I am sure that would never happen with a car head lamp, I don't think it would be hot enough, but the condenser lens is almost impossible to find, so be careful |

So... I got the Hyperkin Game Projector V.3
As expected, this is a very low quality projector. If Hyperkin would have spent the extra money and upgraded the LCD panel this would be a fair unit. It's really only good for a kids room. They wouldn't mind the lack of quality as much. After running the PJ for a couple hours, I decided to sell it for what I had in it... and I did. I guess the best way to review this thing is from a user perspective. From the outside to operation. The unit does have a keystoning lever on the bottom. It makes minor adjustments but works. The LCD has convergence issues. I could easily see the RED, GREEN, & BLUE colors are not lined up well. There is no way to adjust that either. The MENU options are: Volume, Contrast, Color, & Brightness. All options go from 0 to 20. VOLUME at max is still quiet. It is about half of the volume of a standard TV. The best picture I could produce with the menu option settings was: Contrast @ 18 Color @ 8 Brightness @ 8 NOTE: These settings were all at MAX from factory and the picture was massively washed out.
