How do I upload pictures to the Lumenlab Forum so that I can show them to others?

There are two main ways to upload pictures to the Lumenlab Forum.



You can add the picture as an Attachment (1). This is done by clicking on the Browse button (2) and then locating the picture on your computer. Once you have selected the picture, click on the Upload button (3). You can upload more than one file by clicking on the Browse button and then the Upload button again. You'll want to keep in mind that the upload limit per post is 110 Kilobytes (4). This means that your total combined size of all pictures in that one post cannot exceed 110K. These attachments will be hosted by the Lumenlab Forum and will always be here.

To upload pictures and place text between the pictures, follow the steps below:

The other way of sharing your pictures is to host them on an free external picture hosting site (like ImageShack or PhotoBucket) and then link to the externally hosted image. To do this, click on the Insert Image icon (5). When you click on the icon, you'll be presented with a popup window asking you to insert the link to where your image is hosted.



If your link already includes the http://, you'll want to make sure you remove the text that's already in the popup window or your picture will not display properly. Using this method, you should be able to link to a maximum of 10 pictures per post, regardless of their size. The good thing about using this method is that you can place the pictures wherever you want within the text of your post.

If you have more than 10 pictures to share, you will have to wait 1 minute before posting the next set or the Board will try to append your next set to your previous post. When your pictures are hosted externally, they are at the mercy of the Hosting Site. If the Hosting Site goes down, or if you do not maintain your account, your pictures will not be available for future members to see.

When you click on the Add Reply button, your picture will be shown with your post.

When starting my plog, I set out to find the best image host for uploading multiple files at once.

ImageBam.com was definitely the easiest to sign up for (no activation email) and the simplest for uploading my images. They support single file, multiple file (via flash), and zip uploads.
ImageShack's multi uploader didn't work.
Same with PhotoBucket.
Hotlinkfiles wouldn't take a zip archive properly (only extracted one image).
Image-upload.net never sent me a confirmation email.
Freeimagehost.eu had network problems (but looked more promising than the others).

So far I've had no problems with ImageBam.

I’d recommend using LL to host your images. By doing so, the images will remain with the text. You may notice that some threads in the forum are missing their images. This is because the images were hosted offsite and are no longer available. All my images are still intact here after nearly 4 years

I use Photobucket and don't have any problem loading multiple pictures using their Flash-based "Bulk Uploader" (circled below) in Firefox. I use the "old uploader" for uploading and simply click the "add more" link if I have to add between 4 and 10 pictures. Any more than that and I'll click on the Bulk Uploader link.



The New Uploader does not work for me in Firefox, either.

Sure, photobucket, imageshack etc are there. They also have bandwidth restrictions and other issues.

LL will also host your images for free, there's no real downside here, and you can add the pictures with the message.

Unfortunately, if you want to have high quality pictures you won't have enough space with LL - all my pictures are 1MB, more than the 800kb per post limit.

You need a freeware program called VisualPhotoResizer. It compresses them down a lot.

There’s also irfanview, Xnview and probably others.

To be honest, I find the quickest and easiest way to resize images is simply by right clicking them and clicking 'Send to -> Mail recipient' (assuming you have Microsoft Outlook). Outlook will resize them for you and add them to an email attachment. You can then just save the attachments and cancel the email.
