Hi

I am working on my first pj, I got OHP and Acer 15" Lcd wich I striped with some ffc conflict (will extend ffc soon).
I put it all together and was excited to see it work yeeeahhh! biggrin.gif
However image is quite dim and just passable in dark room...

OHP in question is 3M 9100 which has 360W MH lamp. Lumen are quite low (2800), which clearly shows in image.
Would it be possible to install a better bulb on to the existing socket and ballast, something smaller than LL T-15 bulb.
The socket reads 500W 300V. Ballast is hidden away.

Did anyone try this successfully before?
Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

BTW. I am trying not to spend much money on this retrofit, what would be most economical solution.

I don't have any experience with retrofitting an OHP, but...

I know that it's difficult searching for answers on forums as they don't allow using search words that have three letters or less.

The good news is that you can use Google to aid in your search for answers on the LL forum.

Google search: site:lumenlab.com +3M +9100

To further narrow down the Google search: site:lumenlab.com +3m +9100 -Proxima -Inspiron

Here's an alternate search: site:lumenlab.com +retrofitting +OHP

If you can't find the answer you're looking for, perhaps you can at least find somebody who is familiar with the subject and then you can PM them.

You might run across a "quirk" when searching using Google, however. If you notice the thread looking "wonky" like the image below, simply go up the the top right corner of the thread and click on Options and then Switch to: Standard.

Good luck!

This is your lamp.

http://www.pcrush.com/prodspec.asp?refid=1...93252&cpid=

It is a halogen reflector lamp with around a 80 hour life. They are not that much dimmer than a standard LL PJ if you don't use some of the more advanced light setups.

You may be able to just install a brighter lamp into the socket if you up the cooling some.

Here is a 410 watt lamp.

http://www.filmsourcetransparencies.com/ca...products_id=135

The lamp mode# is VA-FXL-6

The socket should fit but the cooling may not be up to the job. You should be able to find the lamp for less money too.

You don't have a ballast or a MH type of lamp so upgrading to any other lamp will require a new ballast /reflector/ condenser/lamp.

Sounds like your "existing ballast" is actually just a transformer. Here's a pic of the transformer I took out of my OHP:

If you want better value for money, longer life, better colour temperature and better luminous output, then I strongly recommend you upgrade to a MH setup. I was lucky in that there was a compartment at the back which is meant for wire storage which I used to house the capacitor and ignitor.

I think in the long run you'll end up much better off upgrading rather than going through loads of Halogens. The quality of the halogen bulbs tend to vary greatly also.

Thanks for the help everyone! I found some useful information, with your google trick.
I'll use the pj just the way it is for now, and in near future I will upgrade to MH setup.
