For my projector I was looking for a way to create various inputs for directv & VCR for the wife plus my Dreamcast.

I found Geexbox.org

It took some configuring, but I now can boot up with a cd-rom to a system that will take any SD input & scale it up to 1024x768 on VGA out using:

Cheap software tunercard
800mhz p3
128mb of ram
Radeon 7000 video card (i'm going to try a rage 128 as I think it might work)
Windows MCE remote control.

The interface isn't all that smooth, however with mplayer's post processing filters it works.
Nicely.

I can also play back DVD's & my recordings off my recording HTPC.

You couldn't pull that on the same system running windows.
Trust me, I tried.

When I finally get the projector assembled i'll post some screen shots.

Hmmm... Interesting...

The pictures seem nice and sharp. Since it only supports 640x480@60Hz, I'm guessing this is merely a component to vga transcoder built for the Wii specifically. I would imagine that if you had an older vdigi, that you would get similar results, no? Hopefully this will be a good product for those of you who don't have the luxury of having component inputs on your projector.

Nice find!

Whats the delay on this? I found that most tuner cards have at least a few seconds delay. So that would make video game playing almost impossible. I one of the better tuner cards a Happague 150mce. And I found pluging my Gamecube in would produce a few seconds delay.

What are your thoughts?

No dicernable delay with geexbox.
Mplayer just opens the video input & plays it like a file in real time.

I found the exact same expeiance using dscaler also except in descaler I needed more PC inorder to keep the image de-interlaced nicely.

I havn't tried a hardware tuner card yet with either geexbox or dscaler.
I have tried it with my most media center apps & can't get away from the delay.
Timeshifting seems to be hardwired into these applications as a standard rule.
I have an avermedia which is a clone of the hauppauge pvr150, I will try it out to see about delay.

That happens because the Hauppauge 150 cards (plus the 250, 350 and 500)have hardware Mpeg, and the delay is the result of the Mpeg compression being performed by the card.
Anaolog TV cards have far less to no delay, as they do no compression, and send the video pretty much directly to the bus.
