I have a PS3 and a Samsung dvd player that has hdmi outputs. But my lcd only has DVI so I bought a 16ft Belkin HDMI to DVI cable. I was doing ok but I was having to unplug my hdmi cable and swap it back and forth between the two. So I went on a search and found the Octava 4X1 switcher.

Model: Octava 4X1 HDMI switcher with 4X1 Toslink Audio switching
Cost: 274.00 USD
Web Site: LINK

Pros: works excellent - automatic switching
Cons: cost

Thoughts: I really like the ease of use instead of switching the cables around and there was no signal loss
or sparkles . I think overall it's a good investment and I still have 2 more hdmi ports to expand.
The hdmi and toslink switch together automatically. I turn off one and turn on the other and the
picture is there.

I prefer a cheaper more complicated approach with more inputs;
monoprice 2x1 hdmi + monoprice 5x1 hdmi gives me 6x1
then two 3play component / optical switches into my two optical jacks on the reciever gives me 6x1 audio.

total price ~$200 including cables.

what you have is much more simple but in the long run I don't even think my solution will offer enough inputs. I will probably end up piggybacking a few more switches in there.

Hopefully 4 will do me. When Directv goes hdmi I'll be in there.
I wanted simple, I had so many wires and such. I had to do so much turning off one thing then turn on another and then back to a different one. It was complicated. My Mrs. quit watching directv in there. I told her I could make it simple and so the Octava did. smile.gif
I love it. after a couple of weeks owning it. It was worth every penny. I now have my new Xbox Elilte run through the Octava. I can have every component on and use the remote to switch from viewing one to the next one or press the manual button on the front of it.

btw. I'm using a 16 ft hdmi to dvi cable from the Octava to pj.
